PREHISTORIC – Trade & Industry in Prehistory (KS2 & 3)

Length: 1.5 hours

Description: This workshop explores the development of trade between the early settlers of East Wear Bay in Folkestone and the near continent.  Beginning with the transition from stone technology to bronze, the workshop then investigates the impact of iron technology and the development of the Folkestone area as a hub for trade in the late Iron Age, as recorded in the burial record.

Activities: Iron Age coins – Make your own I.A. coins with a coin punch; plot trade routes between southern Britain and the continent.

National curriculum requirements: Local history; Stone Age to Iron Age.

Pre-visit needs: Class to devise a timeline for Stone Age to Iron Age.
