Create a Story

To celebrate the Creative Folkestone Book Festival, Folkestone Museum is holding ‘Create a Story’ sessions for children.  Write a short story or create a comic strip based on a ‘futuristic’ theme which must include at least one artefact from the museum within the story!

The winner and runners-up will be picked by a local children’s author and receive a Waterstone’s voucher.

All materials provided – just bring your imagination!

Age 5+.  There are two sessions over the day.  The sessions are on a first come, first served basis.

This activity is a FREE drop-in event for all the family, no booking required. Donations are gratefully received with a suggested donation of £2 or more per visit. There are three colourful donation boxes around the Museum for you to use.


Remembrance Day Poppy Crafting

Discover the important part played by Folkestone in both World Wars and create a remembrance poppy to honour the fallen.

All materials will be provided.

There are two drop-in sessions over the day.  The sessions are on a first come, first served basis.

Exhibition - Eurotunnel 25 Years On

Eurotunnel are celebrating their 25th anniversary! To mark the occasion, Eurotunnel have commissioned a special exhibition exclusively at Folkestone Museum! The Exhibition is open until 7th March 2020 and is our biggest yet, with everything from geology and archaeology to science and engineering.


Meet a Smuggler

Meet Blackthorn an honest law-abiding man from Romney Marsh, who is responsible for maintaining the sea wall. Any aspersions cast about possible nocturnal activities involving the ‘free trade’ of goods with France are pure hearsay and have no basis or proof!

Pirate Hat Craft

Ahoy Matey! Come along and transform into a Folkestone Museum Pirate! Join the crew and personalise your own pirate hat.

Britain’s Last Dinosaur

Back in September 2017, Steve made a major discovery which has helped re-write the story of our past and confirmed an earlier theory regarding dinosaurs in Britain. Meet the discoverer of ‘Britain's last Dinosaur’ and join him on a detective trail unearthing how the last dinosaurs to live in Britain were tracked down.

Prehistory Workshop

Find out about life in Britain from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age! Let us take you on a journey spanning almost a quarter of a million years, looking at how people evolved and what effect technological and spiritual advances had on their everyday lives. Examining the changes in the climate caused by the Ice ages and how they adapted to the environmental changes they encountered.

Anglo-Saxon Bead Workshop

Come along and create your own Anglo-Saxon beaded jewellery in this archaeology art session. Taking inspiration from the museum’s Anglo-Saxon skeleton – Aefre and the Anglo-Saxon jewellery on display at the museum, use the supplies to make your own bracelets and necklaces.
