Meet an Anglo-Saxon!

Workshop length: 1 hour

Suitable for KS1-3

Come and meet our Anglo-Saxon skeleton and find out what life was like in Anglo-Saxon ‘Fulcanstan.’ Learn about the type of house she might have lived in, what foods she ate, what she might have worn and what her life might have been like. For longer workshops, pupils can also learn about Anglo-Saxon beliefs, the way that they treated their dead and how it reflected their society.

During the workshop, you can:

• Use archaeological evidence from Dover Hill Anglo-Saxon cemetery

• Examine a skeleton

• Make an Anglo-Saxon braid Learn about runes and Anglo-Saxon beliefs

• Explore aspects of Anglo-Saxon identity

Pre-visit: The class to devise an Anglo-Saxon timeline.

Post-visit: Pupils can create a story about a day in the life of Aefre with drawings of aspects of Anglo-Saxon life.
