How to get involved

Volunteer

Do you enjoy meeting new people and sharing the history of our wonderful area?  Volunteers are a hugely important part of the Museum team, bringing their own insights and helping us to forge links between the local community and the Museum.

Volunteers can get involved in all aspects of museum management from front-of-house to collections care. Below is a list of the different volunteer roles we are currently recruiting for, click on each one for a detailed description of what’s involved:

There is no admission charge for Folkestone Museum and we aim to keep access free for all.  This means that the Museum can be accessible to people of all ages from all backgrounds.

However, caring for Folkestone’s heritage needs your support.  You can help us to keep the Museum free by donating cash in any of the three donation boxes in the Museum. We suggest a minimum donation of £2.00 per visit.

If you wish to donate for a specific project, wish to make a bequest or sponsor one of our artefacts please email museum@folkestone-tc.gov.uk or call us on  (01303) 257946.

We also accept approaches to place objects in the Museum’s care for research, display and educational use. However due to pressure of storage & display space we cannot accept all offers, nor can we guarantee immediate display, although we do try to rotate the displays regularly. Unfortunately we are unable to accept objects on log-term or permanent loan…

We are particularly interested in items that tell the story of Post-War (1945 onwards) Folkestone and also from the late-medieval to Georgian periods. Our collecting interests lie within the Folkestone & Hythe District Council boundary, so we are unlikely to accept objects with a provenance outside of the area unless there is a very strong Folkestone link or a Folkestone provenanced example is unlikely to ever be available.
